Next Meeting: Wednesday 1st March - Speaker - Alice Fox

There will be a stitch morning this Wednesday followed by an afternoon talk starting at 1:30. We are all looking forward to our next speaker Alice Fox talking about how she uses her allotment for creative inspiration. Alice is fascinated by the detail of organic things and her work celebrates and carries an essence of what she experiences in the natural world.
Don't forget to bring your work for the Carol Brown award for Alice to judge this years textile art. The colour basket for the month is titled "cold colours". Photographs from the crotchet workshop last month.

February 15th, Learn to Crochet Mini Workshop, and Talk from the owners of "Spinning Jenny", the needlework shop in Grassington

Our next meeting will begin with a mini workshop for those wishing to learn to crotchet and how to incorporate fundamental crotchet pieces as accessories into larger pieces of textile art work. We will also have a talk from the owners of "Spinning Jenny" our local needlework shop in Grassington Town Square. The examples above are taken from the Coral Reef Exhibition! Have a look on line at the wonderful exhibitions.
The Quilt above is a piece by Leah Higgins. What a fabulous afternoon we had listening to Leah Higgins enthuse about her textile art work. Leah is a eminent textile artist and print maker and her work which has been exhibited internationally is certainly unique. Although Leah has an extremely busy schedule we were very fortunate in persuading her to visit our Grassington Textile Group in the Town Hall. Her textiles at the moment are inspired by urban and industrial landscapes and Leah talked about her art journey in this media developing into the present day work. She creates amazing abstract pieces from her own dyed and printed fabrics. The uniquely printed cloth is produced by a process called "breakdown". Her understanding of colour and colour mixing when using dyes is excepional. Leah has written several books and one exclusively explains the "breakdown" printing method. This instructive and inspiring book is a step by step guide to "breakdown" with over 350 images. Leah came with many samples of her work but their beauty is not captured in my photographs, although I have included a number of photographs of a small part of her quilts in an attempt to show the detail of her dyed and stitched pieces. Apart from the first photograph, complete photos of her huge quilts can be seen in her online presence and well worth a peruse.
