Next Meeting: Feb 7, Stitch morning followed by a talk with Ailish Henderson

We look forward to a zoom talk by Ailish Henderson, a famous textile artist specialising in art stitched collage works, which have been exhibited both in the UK and overseas. Her work researches the connection between emotional repair and making. I am sure it will be a super afternoon.

The lampshade work shop with Cathy Emmott was one of those marvelous workshops where everything was provided. We just needed to bring our machines and a basic sewing kit. Most designs were based on flower shapes, which were cut out of printed fabric and free machined onto a backing. As the designing and embellishing took time, the lampshades were not completed during the day and I will be featuring them on a future Blog.

Cathy brought a huge selection of her work to inspire us. I was especially interested in her "bird" embroidery. As I am working on an abstract work full of our feathered friends, it was inspirational to see her work and to start a lampshade with birds to accompany my own piece.

Feathered Friends in progress with embellishment of foliage to follow.

Below are examples of Cathy Emmott's stunning embroideries, so detailed and capturing the colour and life like qualities using applique and embroidery.
