Next Meeting: Wednesday July 5th, Talk with Kate Slaughter - "Creative journey with colour and texture"

At our last meeting, Saima Kaur gave a super talk on phulkari embroidery, followed by a zoom workshop explaining the technique for this decorative stitch. She explained that phulkari refers to the folk embroidery of the punjab. Although the word "phulkari" means floral work, the designs include not only flowers but also cover motifs and geometrical shapes. Saima explained that a course cotton cloth was used and embellished using a darn stitch with coloured silk threads. Saima sent in advance a printed sample of fabric for each member in the group and we set to work guided by her clear and concise instructions over the zoom session.
The colour basket for the month is titled "white" and the GTAG Backgrounds for stitching is Cretan Stitch. There is a stitch morning starting at 10:00, when a presentation will be given about the two workshop tutors booked for next May's Stitching in the Dales. There are very limited numbers for this event and it will be advertised externally as well as to our group. Places will be allocated on receipt of a deposit and application forms will be available from next week.
