Tanya Bentham's talk on "Medieval Embroidery" at our last meeting was superb. What a talented embroiderer, author and speaker. She illustrated her talk with wonderful samples of her exquisite work. The amount of stitching in one piece alone is breath taking. The colours, her attention to detail and the modern day twist she incorporates into her pieces, astounded us all . Tanya adheres strictly to her Bayeux Stitch and Opus Anglicanum to create works that are so individual and yet timeless. We are looking forward to a workshop with Tanya next year. Each year the Grassington Textile Arts Group host a three day textile bonanza and this year we are opening places to Non-members. There is a choice of two tutors: Kirstie Williams and Amanda Clayton.
Kirstie is offering a three day Textile Natural Dyeing and Printing Course. This 3-day workshop will cost £175(inclusive of kit). A non-refundable deposit of £100 is payable with the application.
Kirstie Williams is a practising artist and print maker. She currently works as the Maker Spaces Manager at The Art House in Wakefield as well as being a tutor and course administrator at Leeds Print Workshop.
Amanda Clayton will be tutoring a three day workshop "A Little Book of Leaves", exploring hand stitch using the simplicity of leaves as imagery/inspiration. A simple folded book will be produced that exploits the transparent qualities of the cloth used. This 3-day workshop will cost £175(inclusive of kit). A non-refundable deposit of £100 is payable with the application.
