Wednesday, December 1st - Talk "The Fabric of my Life" by Laura Edgar

We started our December meeting with a fabulous zoom talk from the textile artist Laura Edgar. Laura is based in Whitley Bay and her work certainly reflects the inspiration she gets from living on our eastern coastline.

Laura explained that she was fascinated by art at an early age and the illustrations she showed of her painting work, demonstrated the amazing skill she had in this field.

Laura qualified in Textile Design at university and continued her career as a freelance textile designer creating embellished fabrics for the fashion market with a focus on embroidery. She now works in the mediums of textiles and mixed media, exploring an eclectic mix of vintage, recycled fabrics, and ephemera and incorporates embroidery and painting techniques to create original art landscape pieces.

Laura guided us step by step through the processes that she employed to create this breath-taking artwork. Her choice of colours, manipulated fabric and stitch is so carefully chosen to create stunning textile pieces.

A big thank you to Laura for sharing her inspirational work with us this morning.

Below are some wonderful examples of Laura's work.

Next Meetings: Wednesday, September 15th Stitch Day, Wednesday October 6th "Botanical theme lino print onto fabric" workshop with Catherine Carmyllie

GTAG  are looking forward to the Stitch Day on September 15th, when we bring our own items to work on. This is a way of sharing ideas and inspirations. There will also be the opportunity to make a Yorkshire button for those who wish to.

Our next workshop will be with Catherine Carmyllie on the first Wednesday of next month at 10:00am. Due to the popularity of this course, Catherine will be bringing another tutor and we can now accommodate 25 participants.
